Abstract

Background: Learning strategy is an important factor in learning. The purpose of this study was to analyze social studies learning strategies on student learning motivation. Methods: The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The research phase carried out in qualitative research is divided into 3 stages, namely pre-field, field work and reporting. The location taken in this study was SMP Negeri 1 with the research subjects of students in class VIII A. Data collection techniques using observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis includes collection, reduction, display, and conclusion drawing/verification. Findings: Based on the results of the study showed that the learning strategy applied by teachers in social studies subjects at SMP Negeri 1 Pujon is an inquiry strategy. Inquiry learning strategy is a form of student-oriented learning approach (student centered approach). Conclusion: Learning with the application of inquiry strategies can increase student motivation due to: 1) student-oriented learning, 2) Maximum student involvement in learning, and 3) observing phenomena directly.
