About the Journal
Critical Issues of Sustainable Future (CRSUSF) is a leading peer-reviewed and open-access journal, published by Institute for Advanced Social, Science, and Sustainable Future (IASSSF), Jakarta, Indonesia. CRSUSF is published twice a year (January and July), and all articles published are available online with open access.
Aims
CRSUSF is dedicated to examining critical sustainability challenges that demand urgent attention and innovative solutions in our rapidly evolving world. Its goal is to advance understanding of complex sustainability dilemmas while promoting transformative approaches that can address multiple crises simultaneously. By providing a platform for rigorous interdisciplinary scholarship, CRSUSF aims to inform evidence-based responses to critical sustainability issues, fostering collaboration between researchers, policy makers, and practitioners to develop effective strategies for navigating uncertain futures.
Focus
This journal focuses on research that critically examines sustainability challenges requiring immediate attention and innovative intervention strategies. It emphasizes studies that explore the interconnections between multiple sustainability crises, examine system failures and bottlenecks, and investigate transformative approaches that can address root causes rather than symptoms. The focus is on research that confronts difficult questions about sustainability trade-offs, unintended consequences, and the complex dynamics of social-ecological systems under stress.
Scope
This journal seeks to publish a broad range of scholarly articles, including:
- Sustainability Crisis Intersections: Research on how climate change, biodiversity loss, social inequality, and economic instability interact and compound each other, creating complex challenges that require integrated solutions.
- Blue Economy and Marine Sustainability: Studies on ocean governance, marine protected areas, sustainable fisheries, coastal resilience, and innovative approaches to balancing marine conservation with economic development.
- Tipping Points and System Resilience: Analysis of social-ecological tipping points, system collapse scenarios, early warning systems, and strategies for building adaptive capacity in critical systems.
- Sustainability in Conflict and Post-Conflict Settings: Examination of environmental challenges in fragile states, resource conflicts, environmental peacebuilding, and sustainable reconstruction approaches in post-conflict societies.
- Emerging Contaminants and Planetary Health: Investigation of microplastics, pharmaceutical pollution, endocrine disruptors, and other emerging environmental threats that pose risks to human and ecosystem health.
- Cultural Heritage and Sustainability: Research on protecting cultural landscapes, traditional knowledge systems, heritage conservation under climate change, and the role of cultural values in sustainable development.
- Sustainability Transitions in Developing Economies: Studies on leapfrogging opportunities, technology transfer challenges, capacity building needs, and unique pathways for sustainable development in emerging economies.
- Future Risk Assessment and Preparedness: Exploration of scenario planning for sustainability, risk forecasting methodologies, adaptive management strategies, and approaches for navigating uncertainty in sustainability planning.
