Background: This research aims to analyze educational models for preventing and managing food waste for communities such as households, schools, or other downstream sectors. Methods: The research method used is a literature review of international journal articles indexed by Scopus related to the research theme in the 2020–2023 time period. The initial search obtained 168 journal articles, and then 64 articles were selected with educational targets in the downstream sector such as households, schools, and others. Then 11 articles were selected again using the criteria of empirical study results. So the final screening results obtained 11 articles for further analysis. Findings: The results of the study show that in educational efforts to prevent and manage food waste for downstream sectors such as communities, households, and others, it is necessary to pay attention to the educational approach model used, namely the mentalistic approach and the conditional approach, taking into account the objective coverage of educational targets, namely changing behavior towards food waste and reducing the amount of food waste generation. The research results also show that there are obstacles that arise during the educational process of preventing and managing food waste so to minimize obstacles it is necessary to pay attention to essential factors to change the behavior of a group of people. Conclusion: The study emphasizes that effective food waste education requires appropriate approach models and careful consideration of behavioral change factors to achieve sustainable waste reduction outcomes in downstream sectors. Novelty/Originality of this article: The novelty lies in synthesizing empirical studies to identify specific educational approach models and key behavioral factors that influence the success of food waste prevention and management in downstream community sectors.
